Treasury Bills
Treasury Bills are short term debt instruments issued by Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The tenor ranges from 3, 6, to 12 months. They are issued at discount (face value less interest) and have fixed interest rates.
Treasury Bonds
Treasury Bonds are long term debt instruments issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The rates are fixed and Maturity can range from periods of up to 2 to 20 years. Interest is paid every six months and the face value is repaid on the maturity date.
Forward Contract
It is a binding obligation to buy or sell foreign currency at a pre-agreed rate of exchange at a future value date. Forward price of a currency can be identical with the spot price. However, the forward price can be higher (premium) or lower (discount) than the spot price.
Companies can use Forward contracts to cover or hedge foreign exchange exposure from future adverse fluctuations. All forward dates are based on the spot trading date, depending on currency pairs involved.
Repurchase Agreement - Repo
Contract to sell and subsequently repurchase treasury bills and treasury bonds at a specific date and a price.
Spot Contract
Contract to sell and subsequently repurchase treasury bills and treasury bonds at a specific date and a price.
